Patient Testimonials

Wayne...

I have been a regular at NWTC for well over a year, initially in their pulmonary rehab program and then in their physical therapy program, each tailored to my specific needs, then in the last few months in the maintenance program to maintain the results. What impresses me most is the warmth, caring and professional skills of the very devoted staff. I came to feel like part of the family there. I tried another "fitness" facility closer to my home (I live in Everett) but it was one in which I felt like a stranger, no one to talk to, clinically "cold." I can't say enough good things about NWTC, so I'll just say "Bravo!"

I started the therapy program in March of 2005. I could only work in the yard about 15 minutes before--I had to sit down and catch my breath. Now almost a year later I can work 4-5 hours without taking a rest.

Thanks to the therapy maintenance program.

Since shortly after starting to attend the therapy sessions at NWTC, I have been free of excruciating pains in my lower legs (felt after laying in bed for a short time). These pains could last for 15-20 minutes despite constant massage. Earlier my medical doctor could not explain the cause of the pains, and tests showed no blocked arteries in the legs. I credit the various physical exercises taught at NWTC with curing me completely in a relatively short time. I have now been free of these pains for over half a year.

The reason I first came to the center was that I was short of breath. That problem has been stabilized, and I can do much more now than I could before doing the exercises at the center. Also, my blood pressure has come down from high to normal on a steady basis. I am grateful to the always pleasant, professional, and understanding people at the center.

I smoked from 2-4 packs per day for 60 years until one day I stopped breathing. I was transported to a hospital and remained unconscious for four days. I have no idea what transpired but I'm sure they saved my life. Since coming to NWTC, I've discovered that my breathing has improved and I am in much better health than before. I still depend on a nebulizer and inhalers but I am still alive and I believe that NWTC has helped to keep me that way.

At age 45 I never imagined I would develop a rare lung condition and become so ill I couldn't work because I couldn't walk and breathe. I needed a walker or wheelchair to get around. A friend that had been in this program several years ago referred me to NWTC. The staff and other patients were very supportive. We were all short of breath for one reason or another and understood the impact that made in your life.

After several months, I no longer needed my wheeled walker for short distances and the other patients noticed and celebrated with me! My biggest fear was the treadmill as walking and breathing at the same time was my main problem. Two therapists were with me the first several times on the treadmill. I panicked and only lasted a few minutes each time. But they literally worked with me breath by breath until I could get my breathing under control. They gradually allowed me more time on the treadmill with frequent checks. Then less frequent checks on me until the therapist sat in her office where she could hear me but give me confidence I could do it on my own. I can now do 30 minutes on the treadmill! I may still have shortness of breath but my endurance and strength are noticeably improved.

I am very happy with the results I've obtained after my therapy sessions. The employees are very courteous and informative. I'm learning to know my limitations and how to overcome most of them. If I wore a hat I would tip it to you.
